The Pig on the Wall

The Pig on the Wall is a community pub at the heart of Droylsden and rich in history and character. Millson Interior Design with Star Pubs & Bars have worked hard on preserving this pub’s quirky personality while significantly increasing the bar’s sales and covers. Some tough design choices were made to balance the client’s needs whilst reserving as much of the character as possible within the brief. This family-friendly local has undergone a full internal and external renovation that includes a completely new signage scheme, new cladding and lighting with care taken to preserving some traditional elements within the interior. Externally the pub is unrecognisable with a new beer garden, children’s play area and smoking shelter. Since it’s refurbishment, The Pig on the Wall has shifted its trade to a wet:dry split of 60:40, with full new catering facilities and an expert team experienced in providing high-quality service.

Within the pub there is a stylish balance between a cosy snug area complete with fireplace and armchairs and a trendy dining and bar area. A timber lintel that adorned an existing fireplace has been preserved and now embellishes a log stove in the main dining area. The newly revived bar subtly marries together traditional rustic brick-work with modern industrial-style copper, creating a juxtaposed, country-chic style entrance. Throughout the pub the pig and farm theme are still prominent. Millson Interior Design specially designed bespoke pig wall paper to decorate the feature wall in the snug, conserved the traditional fireplace and exposed beams and several subtle photos of the site’s history and heritage can be found throughout site.

Through carefully considered design Millson’s really have created an all-encompassing community venue:

-Leather fixed seating, a wide range of high-end spirits and craft beers accompanied with industrial, quirky lighting caters for the young group of friends wanting a relaxed drinking atmosphere.

-Real ale taps, restored stone flag stones and a cosy fire lends itself to those wanting a more relaxed country pub.

-An extensive food menu, games tables and a brand-new play area creates the perfect venue for a family lunch and gathering.

The pub has been made a lot more accessible. A new ramped access has been formed and the dining area within the pub has been levelled to create an accessible dining space that had previously had a step down. Formerly, the pub had suffered from a lack of natural light, with a dark wooden interior and low-level ceiling. To create a more spacious and airier atmosphere the windows within the bar/ dining area have been dropped to allow for a bigger expanse of natural light in.

With an already significant increase in trade, the Pig on the Wall has been given the quality renovation it deserves. The building, once Greenside Farm open in 1684, is probably the oldest building in Droylsden. Millson Interior Design have respectfully restored the building to its former prestige and have delivered a site, integral to Droylden’s identity, back to the community.
